Condolences

Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your aunt, Sr. Valerie Theresa Owens (Sister M. Ann Patrick) S.C.I.C. Unfortunately for me, I will be unable to attend her funeral as I'll be visiting my family in Halifax on the day for which it is scheduled. I have fond memories of her during my childhood and later on in adulthood when we were involved with the Cursillo Movement. She will be greatly missed. May God be with you during this difficult time and know that He is holding her in the palm of His Hand saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Teachers who make a difference influence us for life. Sister Ann Patrick was one of many Sisters of Charity who worked tirelessly to make Assumption School meaningful and of high quality. Hours upon hours of teaching, mothering, disciplining, marking and loving filled their long days of sacrifice to make us better people. Sister strived to bring Christ into our lives and reveal the importance of maintaining a life within our Church because it adds to the possibility of happiness on earth. Beyond that though, they recognized the value of a good solid education and gave us the fundamentals to make our way. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to benefit from their love of education and children and to learn so much that I have fallen back on over the years. May Sister Valerie Owens and the other sisters who have gone on find peace and happiness in their eternal reward. They have earned it. Thank you, Sisters.

The Saint John Cursillo Community wishes to express our condolences on the passing of Sr. Valerie, our friend and fellow Cursillista. Sr. Valerie had a sincere devotion to the Cursillo Movement and, as our Assistant Spiritual Director, was a valued and inspirational member of our Community. Her quiet, warm and friendly manner always enhanced our monthly gatherings and made everyone feel welcome and special. She had a wonderful influence on many of our lives and will always be in our thoughts and prayers. A donation to Romero House has been made in loving memory of Sr. Valerie.

We were so sorry to hear of Sr. Valerie's passing recently. Your aunt was a special lady, as I am sure you are well aware of. My husband worked closely with Sr. Valerie when he was co-lay director of the Cursillo movement in the Yarmouth and Valley area. We both knew her for many years through Cursillo. She was such a kind person and so full of wisdom. We will keep you in our prayers during this difficult time. May God grant you the peace and love as you grieve the loss of a life well lived. We will never forget her beautiful spirit.

I had the pleasure to teach at St. Patrick's School in Digby when Sr. Owens was my Principal. Over the years we became very good friends. I always admired how she embraced computer technology! I enjoyed the retreat days she organized at the Convent. A kind, fair and thoughtful woman . Rest in peace, dear Sister Valerie.
