Sr. Valerie Theresa Owens

1926-2015

The death of Sister Valerie Theresa Owens (Sister M. Anne Patrick) occurred on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Gertrude (O’Leary) Owens. Valerie entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1943 and received her NB Teacher’s License, her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UNB. Sister Anne Patrick began her teaching ministry and taught in St. Stephen, NB, Saint John (St. Peter’s, St. Pius and St. Joseph’s Westside), in Moncton, NB and Digby, NS. Sister Valerie was also a Council member at Conway Place from 1978 - 1980. In 1986 she received a Certificate in Religious Studies from Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington. Sister Owens also was director of the Renewal Centre in Digby, NS from 1987-2000. She returned to Saint John and resided at St. Joseph’s Westside. She was currently living at Ruth Ross Residence. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by sisters: Marie Owens, Gertrude Owens, Olive Owens, Noreen Barry, Ursula Morrison and Justine Owens; brother: Allan Owens.

Resting at Ruth Ross Residence 105 Burpee Avenue, with visiting on Monday, December 28, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Vigil prayer will be celebrated on Monday at 7:00 pm Carmel Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 10:00 am Carmel Chapel, Ruth Ross Residence Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
