Verla Vivian Hayes

The death of Verla Hayes of Saint John, wife of the late Henry "Hank" Hayes occurred on Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 9, 1939 in Perth Andover, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Marion (McGilligan) Green.

Prior to her retirement, Verla worked at Northern Telecom and successfully owned and operated a special care home.

Verla is survived by her children, Bill Hayes (Debbie), Bobby Hayes, Bonnie Phillips (Doug), Kevin Hayes (Rose), Timmy Hayes (Lori) and Brian Hayes (Penny) all of Saint John; brothers, Robert Green (Ruth) of Grand Bay-Westfield, and David Green (Cathy) of South Bay; sisters, Pauline McRae (Ron) of British Columbia, Faith Watts of Quispamsis, Kathleen Kilpatrick (Malcolm) of(Alberta),Donna Wong (Peter) of Nackawic and Pat O'Neill of Quispamsis; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Verla was also predeceased by her brother, Darryl Green, sister, Dorcas Thorne; grandson, Douglas Phillips; sisters-in-law, Joyce Unger and Doreen Green; as well as brothers-in-law, Richard Watts, John O'Neill and Ken Thorne.

Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965) with visiting on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 12:10 PM. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
