Sr. Patricia Wallace
1916-2014
The death of Sr. Mary Patricia Wallace (Sister Mary Marcella) of Saint
John, NB, occurred on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Ruth Ross Residence.
Born in Blacks Harbour she was the daughter of the late Leo and
Margaret (O’Connor) Wallace. Sister entered the Sisters of
Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1933. After her
novitiate, Sister Marcella was missioned to Edmonton, Alberta to
prepare for teaching in that province. Sister ministered as a teacher
and principal in the Edmonton Separate School System for 35 years,
retiring in 1974. Sister then worked in health care in Vancouver, BC
and Radway, Alberta, in Adult Religious Education in Edmonton, a
teacher-librarian in Burnaby, BC and Adult Religious Education in
Mapleridge, BC. From 1990 to 1994, Sister served as a Councillor on
the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception Leadership Team.
In 1994 Sister continued volunteer work with Extended Care Residents
at St. Vincent’s Hospital and the Veteran’s Hospital in
Vancouver. Sister returned to St. Vincent’s Convent in Saint
John in 2002 where Sister continued to help with the elderly and sick
Sisters in Ruth Ross Residence and Sister volunteered at the Religious
Education Department of the Diocesan Centre. Sister presently resided
at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John, NB. Sister is survived by her
brother Mr. Joseph (Inez) Edmund Wallace – Petrolia, California;
3 nieces, 4 grand-nieces; 2 nephews, 6 grand-nephews. Besides her
parents she was predeceased by her sister Mrs Frances Kirkman.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Monday at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 in Carmel Chapel, Ruth Ross Residence at 10:00am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John, NB (506-634-1965).
