Carmel McCaig
1936-2014
McCAIG, CARMEL EDITH - It is with great sadness that we announce the
passing of Carmel E. McCaig, wife of 49 years of the late Gerard
McCaig at Bobby’s Hospice on Saturday, September 20th, 2014
surrounded by family. Carmel was born in Saint John on November 5,
1936, had a zest for life, and lived it fully each day until her
illnesses. Carmel was a long-term resident of Westmorland Road, and
attended Mount Carmel School in Saint John. Carmel worked for
Trans-Canada Credit for over 30 years until her retirement and then
worked for Elections Canada, Zellers, and sold real estate. Carmel
loved her time as President of the Rocmaura Auxiliary, St. Ann’s
Parish President, being a long-standing member of the CWL, teaching
catechism, church choir, summers in the Kingston Peninsula, and
travelling on many bus tours. She was the daughter of the late
Alexander and Dolina (Breau) Daigle. Carmel is survived by her son
Michael (Karen) of Saint John, her precious granddaughter Victoria,
her twin sister Odette Hurley of Spencer, MA, Ronald (Lorna) Daigle of
Saint John, Evelyn Daigle of Montreal, Helen (Stan) Okopien of
Montreal, QC, Ralph (Angela) of Dartmouth, Carl (Donna) of Saint John,
Al of Neptune City, NJ. She was predeceased by her brother Al, her
sister-in-law Cindy and her brothers-in-law Peter Lavoie and Stan
Hurley.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with
visiting on Tuesday from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm. Mass of Chistian
Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, Simpson Drive on
Wednesday morning at eleven o’clock. Reception to follow in St.
Ann’s Parish Hall. Following cremation, interment will take
place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Thursday, September 25th at 1:00
pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rocmaura
Auxiliary or a charity of your choice.
