Constance Theresa Marr

MARR-It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of
Constance Theresa Marr, widow of Ralph B. Marr, on Tuesday, July 6,
2010 after a brief illness. Connie was born in Saint John on April 9,
1925, a daughter of the late John P. and Evelyn M. (Lawlor) Mooney.
She graduated from St. Vincent's High School and later obtained her
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from UNB. She retired as a
school teacher from Saint John Vocational School where she developed
many cherished friendships. Connie enjoyed traveling and
throughout her teaching career took her took her students on
many bus trips to New York and educational cruises.
Following her retirement, Connie continued to travel to
exotic locations as Africa, Asia, Europe and the US.
Connie's heart, however, was always with her family. She was
devoted to her husband, Ralph and her children, David and Marilyn, and
always made sure that dinner was on the table despite the demands of
her career. Some of her most cherished times were spent with
her brothers and sisters and their families. She was an
active member of Riverside Country Club. She was an earnest
supporter of all things cultural whether attending concerts at the
Imperial Theatre, High School musicals or Broadway shows.
Connie believed in supporting local talent that is attested by the
walls in her home which display eclectic paintings of several Saint
John artists. Connie was known for her great sense of style,
her sense of humor and her commitment to the community. She
was a member of Probus, the Retired Teachers Association, Girl Guides
of Canada and the Saint John Irish Cultural Society of which she
served as Grand Marshal for Irish Week in Saint John. We
will forever be proud of Connie and keep her in our hearts.
She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Patrick Mooney; two
sisters, Geraldine Mooney and Barbara Moore; and a granddaughter,
Leslie Bruce. She is survived by one son, Dr. David (Judy) Marr of
Rothesay; one daughter, Marilyn Bruce of Saint John; three sisters,
Mrs. Kathleen MacDougall of Saint John, Mrs. Evelyn
(Denis)
Morris of Halifax, and Miss Gertrude Mooney of Saint John; one
sister-in-law, Mrs. Roz Mooney of Saint John; five grandchildren,
Colin (Jennifer) Marr of Halifax, Jeffrey, Sara, and Brian Marr, all
of Saint John. and Andrew Bruce of Halifax; and several nieces and
nephews.
Resting at
Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on
Wednesday from 7 to 9 and on Thursday from 2 t o 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help
Church, Rothesay, on Friday at twelve o'clock.
Interment will take place in Our of Perpetual Help Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, donations to the Leslie E. Bruce Environmental Scholarship
or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
