Sister Lila F. Kindred
KINDRED-the death of Sister Lila F. Kindred (Sr. M. Majella)
occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Monday, December 20, 2010. Sr.
Kindred was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late John and
Margaret (Trainor) Kindred. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the
Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1936. Sr. Lila received her
Teacher's License in 1940 and went on to receive her High School
Teaching License in 1944. Continuing her studies earned
Sister her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education Degrees. Sister
Kindred taught from 1945 to 1978 at various schools. These schools
included Mountain Road and St. Bernard's Schools in Moncton; Holy
Rosary in St. Stephen; St. Patrick's and Holy Trinity Schools in Saint
John; St. Patrick's Orphanage and St. Michael's School in Prince
Albert, Sask.; St. Joseph's School in Winnipeg; and Sacred Heart
School in Wetaskiwin, Sask. Sister Lila resided at Holy Name Convent
in Johnville from 1986 until 1997. She returned to Saint John in 1997
and resided at St. Vincent's Convent until moving to Ruth Ross
Residence. She was predeceased by four brothers, Edmund, Thomas,
James, and Joseph Kindred; and four sisters, Mrs. Alice White, Mrs.
Mary Saulier, Mrs. Mary Eileen Dunlavy, and Mrs. Lavinia Hanley. She
is survived by 8 nieces; 7 nephews; 7 grandnieces; and 19
grandnephews.
Resting at St. Vincent's
Convent, 31 Cliff St. with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent's Chapel
on Friday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place
in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Evening
Prayer Vigil will be held in the chapel on Thursday evening at seven
o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes
Association; Pro Kids; or the Saint John Boys and Girls Club would be
appreciated.
