SKIDD, STASIA, RN-Unexpectedly but peacefully, the death of Mary
Anastasia (Stasia) Skidd, RN, widow of John (Jack) Skidd, occurred at
St. Joseph's Hospital, Saint John, on Sunday, January 30, 2011. Born
in Belldune, N.B., she was the only daughter of the late Michael James
and Macrina Bridget (Ahern) Talbot, and the last surviving member of
the Talbot family. Stasia attended local schools and spent her summers
at the ancestral home in Nigadoo, N.B. She graduated from St. Mary's
Academy in Newcastle, attended St. Francis Xavier University and
graduated from Hotel Dieu Hospital School of Nursing, Chatham, N.B. in
1947. With her husband, Jack, and her young family, she moved to Saint
John in 1953. In the early years Stasia nursed at the Saint John
General Hospital and then began a 30 year nursing career at St.
Joseph's Hospital. She was well known as a dedicated Evening Nursing
Supervisor who was loved by patients and staff alike. Her beautiful
red hair and smile only enhanced her hallmark personality as she spent
each day genuinely interested in those with whom she came in contact.
When she was admitted to Restorative Care (6th Floor) St. Joseph's
Hospital in December, she asked all the staff to "just call me
Skidd" as everyone had during her wonderful nursing years. They
readily obliged and she loved it, as they cared for her in such a
professional way. Stasia was also a faithful and devoted member of
Holy Trinity Parish as well as the C.W.L. Stasia is survived by her
loving children, all of Saint John and part of her everyday life;
Barbara (Peter) McGill, Tensie Kierstead, Roxanne (Bill) Marr, Michael
(Margie) and Matthew Skidd. Her 16 grandchildren were her joys and she
was proud to attend all their special celebrations and graduations.
She was "Grammy Skidd" to Charlotte (Trevor Pierce), Corey
McGill, Ali (Tushar Pishe), and Emily McGill, Michael Kierstead (Lisa
Perrotta), Hilary Kierstead (Michael LeBlanc), Bronwyn Kierstead,
Daniel, Aynsley, Elizabeth, Alex and Simon Marr, Abigail Skidd (Todd
Remete), Meaghan, Hayley and Hannah Skidd; and "Great Grammy
Skidd" to Anna, Tom,, Henry, Bridget, and Charlie Pierce, Neel
Pishe, Jack and Maxx LeBlanc, and Daniel Skidd. She is also survived
by her sisters-in-law, Marie Hare, Kathleen Webster, Peta Martin; her
brother-in-law, Ralph Skidd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Stasia was predeceased by
her only and beloved brother, Michael Augustus (Gus) Talbot, her
sisters-in-law, Bernadine MacMillan and Hodie McClure, and
brother-in-law, Blair Skidd.
