J. ANDRE GIROUARD

GIROUARD, J. ANDRE-the death of J. Andre Girouard of 255 Westmorland Rd., husband of M. Sophie (McLaughlin) Girouard, occurred peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.  Andre was born in Buctouche, a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (LeBlanc) Girouard, and had resided the greater part of his life in Saint John where he had been employed as a CPR trucker and with the City of Saint John until his retirement a number of years ago. He enjoyed spending his summers camping in Buctouche and playing cards. His friends called him "Magoo".

Nobody was a stranger to Dad, he talked to everyone until he knew where they came from and their history. He was predeceased by a son, Alexander "Sandy"; nine brothers; and three sisters. Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by one son, Norman (Johanne) of Upper Golden Grove; two daughters, Simonne (Sylvio) Benoit of Upper Golden Grove, and Mae Girouard (Scott Taylor) of Saint John; one brother, Joseph (Bertha) of Leominster, Mass; one sister, Geraldine Maillet of Moncton; six grandchildren, Rick (Debbie) Benoit, Stefan (Shannon) Cormier, Andy (Heather) Girouard, Joey (Breanne) Cormier, Nadine Girouard (Pat) Mackin; and Chantal (Darren) Elliott; nine great-grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.

     Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with visiting on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Friday afternoon at 12:05. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
