Sister Gertrude C. Murphy

MURPHY, Sister Gertrude C.- the death of Sister Gertrude C. Murphy (Sr. M. Charlotte) occurred at Ruth Ross Residence on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Sister was born in Saint John, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Clara F. (Curran) Murphy.

She nursed at St. Joseph's Hospital before entering the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on May 24, 1940. After novitiate and profession of vows she returned to nursing at St. Joseph's from 1942-1951 and again from 1964-1974. In the interim she served as a nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital in Vancouver. She retired from nursing in 1974 and continued in the ministry of Spiritual Direction at Rosary Hall Renewal Centre in Fredericton. She also provided Pastoral Care at St. Joseph's Hospital until her retirement.

She was predeceased by her sister, Olive Murphy.

Resting at St. Vincent's Convent, 31 Cliff St., with visiting on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Evening Vigil will be held on Monday evening at seven o'clock. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Vincent's Chapel on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
