Charles C. Kane
1935-2012

KANE, Charles C.,-the family of Charles C. Kane is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing at home on Saturday, January 14, 2012, following a period of failing health. Charlie will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend of 35 years, and more recently his faithful caregiver, Alice (Jenner) Kane. He was born in Saint John on March 2, 1935, the second son of the late Harold E. and Madeleine (Watts) Kane.
He was a gifted athlete during his high school years at
St.Vincent's where he excelled in both rugby and hockey and later in
Canadian football with the original Saint John Wanderers. He was a
longtime member of the Royal Order of Wharf Rats. Well known around
the Saint John waterfront, Charlie had a special way with his peers
which earned him the respect of both labour and management. He worked
with Air Canada in Saint John and later became manager of his father's
steamship and travel agency (H.E. Kane Agencies Ltd.), a position he
held for many years. Later he spent several years with the Maritime
Employer's Association in the filed of labour relations.
Besides his wife, he is survived by seven sons Michael,
Christopher (Kim), Anthony (Mary), Andrew, Jeffrey (Michelle), Jason
(Carly), and Harold "Skip" (Audra); two brothers, Harold
"Skip" of Winnipeg and Robert (Judy) of Rothesay; a sister,
Barbara of Halifax; 10 grandchildren; 3 nieces; 1 grandniece; and Joan
Kane, the mother of his children.
Resting at Fitzpatrick's Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo St., with
visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday at twelve noon.
Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation; the Saint
John Seafarers' Mission; or the Animal Rescue League-S.P.C.A. would be
appreciated.
