Layden, Sr. Margaret Lila - The death of Sister Margaret Layden
(Sister Elizabeth), occurred on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Ruth Ross
Residence. Sister was born, June 2, 1916 at Goshen, NB, she was a
daughter of the late Ervin Dominic and Bridget Catherine (Breen)
Layden. Sister Margaret entered the Sisters of Charity of the
Immaculate Conception on March 25, 1939. She served as Homemaker at
Rosary Hall in Regina, Saskatchewan, at Wetaskiwin, Edmonton and
Hanna, Alberta. In 1950, Sister Margaret moved to Prince Albert,
Saskatchewan and served at Holy Family Hospital as an Admitting
Officer until 1971. Sister returned to Saint John, NB and worked in
the Admitting Office at St. Joseph’s Hospital until 1976. Sister
Margaret was a member of the Pastoral Care Team at Rocmaura Nursing
Home and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, NB. Sister resided
at Ruth Ross Residence.
Survived by her brothers, Kenneth Layden of Saint John, and Donald Layden, CSC of Welland, ON; sister, Sr. Virginia Layden, scic, of Saint John; nine nieces, twenty-one grand nieces, sixteen nephews and sixteen grand-nephews.
Sister Margaret was predeceased by her brothers, Augustine, Edward, Patrick and Thomas Layden; sisters, Mary Walsh, Genevieve DuBois, Rita Bowland and Agnes Layden.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a Prayer Vigil that evening at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Ruth Ross Residence Carmel Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-7424).
