Kneeland, Sr. Catherine G. …The death of Sister Catherine
Geraldine Kneeland (Sister Mary Geralda), occurred on Tuesday, April
17, 2012 at Ruth Ross Residence. Sister was born on April 3, 1925 at
Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late William James and Irene
(Pippy) Kneeland. Catherine entered the Sisters of Charity of the
Immaculate Conception in 1943. Catherine, (Sister M. Geralda) received
her Teacher’s License and her Bachelor of Arts degree from St.
Thomas University. Sister carried out her ministry of teaching in New
Brunswick at Johnville, Woodstock, St. Patrick’s Orphanage and
St. Stephen. Sister was missioned to Vancouver where she taught at St.
Anthony’s School from 1963-1970. She returned to teach at St.
Dunston’s in Fredericton and St. Stephen until 1986. Sister
Kneeland returned to Saint John and ministered in Pastoral Care at St.
Joseph’s Hospital and the Saint John Regional Hospital until
2004 when she became the local leader at Ruth Ross Residence. Sister
Kneeland resided at St. Vincent Residence.
Sister is survived by her sister, Mary Gauvin, five nieces, three grand-nieces, one nephew and eight grand-nephews.
She is predeceased by her sister, Margaret Kneeland and her brothers, John, Bernard and Frederick Kneeland.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a Prayer Vigil, Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Ruth Ross Residence Carmel Chapel on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965).
