Gertrude Theresa Horgan

The death of Gertrude Theresa Horgan, of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Harold Horgan, occurred peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Bobby’s Hospice.

Born in Saint John, on February 17, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mary (MacDonald) Daley.

Gertrude was raised in St. John the Baptist Parish, where she also taught school for forty years. She volunteered with the Rite of Christian Initiations of Adults. Gertrude was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for more than two decades, where she volunteered as a lector and sacristan. On December 8, 2006, Gertrude was delighted to receive the Bishop Dollard Medal of Merit by Bishop Emeritus J. Edward Troy.

She will be missed by her sons, Patrick (Jennifer) of Saint John and Sean (Melissa) of Rothesay, NB, sister; Mary Leahy (Bill) of Saint John, grandchildren; Catherine, Mollie, Joshua, and Olivia Horgan, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Kathleen "Kay" Connell and Joan Gaynes and brothers; Charles and Ranald Daley.

Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965) with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 12:10 PM. Interment to take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hope House, would be appreciated.
