Ronald D. Finley

Finley, Ronald D. – The passing of Ronald Douglas Finley occurred on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ron was born in Fredericton, NB, on August 24, 1942 but spent most of his life in Saint John. He graduated from St. Malachy’s Memorial High School with high honours in 1960, St. F.X.U. in 1965, and U.N.B. in 1968.

Ron’s professional career began in 1965 as a Mathematics Teacher at Aberdeen Junior High School. After a number of years, he moved to the staff of Finley-Mullin Real Estate Ltd., a family owned business, before moving back to his original vocation of teaching, this time at Forest Hills Junior High School. In May, 2001, Ron was inducted into the Saint John Sports Hall of Fame as a former member of the Canadian Champion CYO Monarchs Basketball Team.

Ron was predeceased by his father, F. Douglas Finley in 1985, and his mother, Frances Reta (Feran) Finley in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Florence Finley (Alchorn) (Porter), two sons; Gregory Brian (Susan) and Keith Edward Douglas (Katherine) of ON, step-daughter; Stacie Porter (Adam Martin), grandchildren; Rhys, Jackson, Morgan, Claire, and Emily.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM from Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home Chapel with visiting from 12 – 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue League or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John (634-1965).
