Sister Barbara Paulina Schatz
1913-2014
<p>Sister Barbara Paulina Schatz (Sister Antonia) passed away at
the Ruth Ross Residence, Saint John, NB, on January 17, 2014. Born in
Holdfast Saskatchewan she was a daughter of the late Bernard and
Josephine (Senger) Schatz. Barbara entered the Sisters of Charity of
the Immaculate Conception on October 5, 1929. Sister Barbara taught
school at the Burnaby Boy’s Home, Burnaby, BC from
1931-1936. Sister Schatz studied piano, voice and taught music. She
was church organist and choir director in various places in Alberta,
Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia. Sister retired in 1996
and moved to St. Vincent’s Hospital Convent in Vancouver, BC
where she served in various ministries until she moved to Saint John,
NB in 2004. Sister resided at St. Vincent’s Convent until
2009 when she moved to Ruth Ross Residence.</p>
<p>She is survived by 14 nephews and 12 neices (5 Joyce, 3 Kehler, 2 Metz, 12 Schatz and 4 Zimmerman). Besides her parents she was predeceased by six sisters, Magdalena Schatz, Regina Schatz, Mrs. Christina Metz, Mrs. Margaret Kehler, Mrs. Magdalena Zimmerman and Mrs. Katherine Joyce; four brothers Mr. Jacob Schatz, Mr. Frank Schatz, Mr. John Schatz, Father Michael Schatz.</p>
<p>Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with a prayer vigil that evening at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Carmel Chapel at Ruth Ross Residence on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment to take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John, NB (634-1965) www.fitzpatrickfh.com.</p>
