Hatty, Theodore “Ted” M. – Theodore Michael Hatty,
husband of Bette (Mitchell) Hatty, died peacefully on Tuesday,
February 18, 2014 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, surrounded by family,
just two days after his 94th birthday. Born in Rooth Station he was a
son of the late Rafael and Bertha (Kaizer) Hatty. Ted was employed
with the Canadian Government as a Customs and Excise Officer. He had
served overseas in World War II with the Royal Canadian Air Force; he
was a member of the RCL Branch # 53 and the Canadian Lebanon
Association. He was proprietor of the Barrel House Restaurant which
was famous in its time. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, crib, music and
reading. He was “Mr Fix It” with a fondness for duct tape.
He was never happier than when he was entertaining and feeding
people. His devotion to his wife and family was only exceeded by his
devotion to his faith and he served as an active member of the
Cathedral for many years. Besides his wife he is survived by one son,
Terry (Cindy) of Charlottetown; four daughters, Cynthia Bishop (Tom)
of Saint John, Elaine Maloney of Saint John, Holly Berry (Malcolm, the
Rev.Canon) of Oromocto, Jill Stanley (Michael) of Saint John; one
sister, Dorothy Johnson of Saint John; son-in-law, Dan Maloney; eleven
grandchildren, Tamara (Dave), Jennifer (Mike), Matthew (Christy),
Thomas (Krisanne) Rachel (Aaron), Jeffrey, Lee, Alex, Johanna
(Graeme), Colin (Danielle), Lesley-Anne; four great-grandchildren,
Matthew, Cynthia, Emmett and Elyse; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son, Theodore
Michael, two brothers, Jack and Gerald; two sisters, Edith and
Marguerite.
Resting at Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street,
Saint John, NB (634-1965) with visiting on Thursday, February 20, 2014
from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. There will be a RCL tribute service on Thursday
at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday,
February 21, 2014 from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at
12:10 pm. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers remembrances to the Alzheimer Society or the Cathedral
Restoration Project would be appreciated by the family. Online
