Carol O'Brien
1940-2014

Carol Ann O’Brien (McGrattan), age 73, of Saint
John NB, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
She was born on Dec 23rd, 1944, the 2nd of 8 children born to the late
Paul and Mary (Leahy) McGrattan. "Cardy" as she was
often called by close friends and family will be remembered for the
way she always made those in her presence feel special, important and
unconditionally loved. She never forgot a single soul she ever met and
never failed to inquire about the many people who weaved in and out of
her life, with genuine interest, empathy, and kindness. She was known
for her easy-going nature, her easy laugh and quick wit and her pride
in her three children and 5 grandchildren. And for those who grew up
in Renforth, her legacy will be the forever unlocked and open back
door, for all to pop in for a quick chat, game of crib or a home made
meal. She is survived by her three children: Danny (Susanne)
O’Brien, Mary (Blaine) Henderson, and Susan (Jim) Doty,
grandchildren: Allie, Grace, Alexandra, Isabelle and Gregory; sisters,
Marie Maxwell;, Norah Downey, Libby (Jim) Newton, Helen (Doug) Carter;
brothers, Paul (Maxine) McGrattan and Tommy (Betty Ann) McGrattan
along with numerous relatives and friends, both old and new. Besides
her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Gregory
O’Brien and her brother Kevin McGrattan. Resting at
Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street, Saint John
(634-1965) with visitation on Sunday June 1st from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A
mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street Saint John, NB on Monday
June 2nd, 2014 at 12:10pm. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's
Cemetery with a reception to follow at Shadow Lawn Inn 3180 Rothesay
Rd., Rothesay, NB. For those who wish, remembrances to the Saint John
Boys and Girls Club, charity of choice or Carol would simply like
everybody to take time to do something they like, with someone they
love, or call a family member or friend that they haven’t
heard from in a long time.
